From January 5 to January 8

January 5
FOR by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions, or principalities, or powers, all things were created by him, and for him.
Colossians 1:16

January 6
"YOU never dail, if you never stop trying." Now, isn't that an inspiring thought to hold on to in the gloom of a January morning as yet again you face another Monday's workload or at home prepare for another day of challenges and responsabilities.

January 7
"WHAT a day it's been!" exclaimed the Lady of the House, as she sank wearily into her armchair. I agreed.
The weather had been dreadful - gale-force winds and torrential rain - the kind of day we usually choose to say indoors. However, we had promised to visit a friend in hospital and to do some shopping for her first. The town center resulted in traffic jams.
When we finally reached the hospital building alterations were going on and patients had been moved to different wards. Even walking a short distance outside meant we were buffeted about and soaked to the skin. But Rosemary's smile and words of thanks eased our discomfort and we felt a little guilty about the way we had grumbled to each other on the way.
Home at last, warm and dry by the fireside, we could start to relax and I soon found myself humming that well-known old song: "Pick yourself up, dust yourself down and start all over again."

January 8
I RECEIVED a delightful letter from a reader who told me that she has her own tried and tested method of approaching each year's new Friendship Book.
Rather than, as might be expected, starting at January 1 she instead looks up all the dates important to her own family, acquaintances and friends and makes pencil jottings besides each. In this way, not only does she remind herself of all the birthdays and anniversaries for the coming year but, at the same time, she can gain special insight from the thought for that particular day.
Isn't that a lovely idea? Perhaps you might like to try it, too.
